STAND Community Manager
STAND, the student led division of United to End Genocide, is building a permanent student movement to prevent and end genocide and mass atrocities. The STAND Community Manager is responsible for management of the Core Chapter component of STAND’s Student Leadership Team and central organizing model, a group of over 100 student chapters and their leaders across the country, college and high school. The STAND Community Manager manages the Core Chapter program training curriculum and retreats, monitors accountability and amplification mechanisms for Core Chapter Leaders, as well as assists with national programming content development, execution, and evaluation and serves as the main owner of all STAND logistics (from booking retreat travel to researching the newest, most innovative tools). Additionally, the STAND Community Manager monitors STAND’s online presence to ensure resources from how-to guides and small grants to blog posts highlighting urgent action opportunities are consistently of high quality, readily accessible and actively promoted and helps with the daily and longer term maintenance of STAND’s systems (website backend, social network accounts, email manager, membership database, info account, etc). The STAND Community Manager fulfills these responsibilities through close coordination and communication with the STAND Senior Manager and the Managing Committee – the 15 student leaders who compose the decision making body of STAND, namely the Fundraising, Programming, and Online Coordinators, and 7-10 Regional Organizers.
Responsibilities
- Track and report on the growth of STAND chapters and members; Ensure this information is utilized in strategic decisions and inform efforts to meet chapter needs
- Communicate movement successes to and from members, articulate membership needs/gaps, facilitate connections between activists, and provide members with relevant resources and opportunities for engagement;
- In coordination with STAND’s Communications Coordinator, managing and coordinating STAND’s various communications networks, including all Google platforms, the STAND website, listserv, and social media, as well as all internal membership databases and corresponding systems/documents;
- Providing strategic guidance and acting as logistical point on initiatives and programs, including retreats and conferences. Serve as logistical point for STAND Camp, STAND’s annual week long training retreat and the cornerstone of the Core Chapter Program;
- Editing and creating materials, including copy-editing outgoing materials (online and physical), coordinating between the Managing Committee, staff and external contractors in creating and ordering merchandise, creating promotional materials, creating and commissioning STAND videos and PSAs;
- Providing strategic guidance and logistical support on STAND’s overall strategy, including conflict selection debates and research, and long-term membership, recruitment, organizing, advocacy, and fundraising strategies;
- Coordinating with the STAND student Managing Committee and United to End Genocide staff members on grassroots initiatives, technology, and strategic communications; and
- Oversee the STAND intern, respond to membership emails and help maintain internal membership and management databases, metrics and systems
- Managing STAND’s small grants program, in coordination with the National Student Director, relevant Regional Organizers, and additional field coordinators
- Managing and facilitating STAND’s speaker network and database.
Qualifications
- Degree: Bachelor’s Degree required
- Years of Experience: 1-2 years grassroots organizing, or related experience
- At least: 2 years experience working with students in a leadership capacity; previous involvement in a local STAND chapter preferable
- Computer Equipment and Software: Ability to perform basic computer operations. Proficiency with Microsoft Office. Basic level knowledge of HTML. Full proficiency of all Google Platforms and Applications (Docs, Gmail, G+, etc; some knowledge of Analytics and AdWords preferred).
- Skills and Abilities: Excellent communication, editing and proofreading skills. Strong self-motivation and the ability to work independently to meet deadlines set in coordination with the MC and national initiatives. Should be able to work well with a remote team and contribute to a positive team culture, juggle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, coordinate details across leaders/regions/initiatives/etc, and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to facilitate communication between multiple parties in a diplomatic, efficient way.
- Must Have: An ability to relate to and interact meaningfully with college and high school students; An unyielding belief in the ability of student leaders to make big change at a global scale; A deep commitment to the movement and issue.
