Student Activism

STAND is the student-led division of United to End Genocide. STAND’s student leadership team recruits, trains, organizes and mobilizes students around the world by providing materials, educational information, online resources, policy expertise and a network of concerned and active peers. With close to 1000 active chapters in high schools and colleges nationwide, United to End Genocide’s student activists are leading the movement to make genocide prevention a national political priority.

Leadership Development

When the Rwanda genocide began in 1994, Carl Wilkens refused to leave. His courageous actions saved the lives of hundreds of children and many of his Rwandan friends. Mr. Wilkens is emblematic of the The Carl Wilkens Fellowship program’s theme: ordinary individuals can make an extraordinary difference when they  choose to engage. The 12-month, selective Fellowship program provides emerging leaders in communities across the United States with tools and training to build sustained political will to end genocide.

Financial Sector Accountability

Recognizing the significant influence and interest of financial stakeholders in ongoing conflicts, United to End Genocide’s Conflict Risk Network (CRN) taps into a network of institutional investors, financial service providers and related stakeholders. Through combined efforts to mitigate conflict risk and increase responsible foreign investment, the Conflict Risk Network plays a key role in ending genocide.

Outreach

Building meaningful and sustained relationships with a broad diversity of partner groups and communities – such as various diaspora and survivor communities, various faith-based organizations, and human rights groups – is a hugely important aspect of United to End Genocide’s efforts. Consistent outreach and relationship-building with a broad range of potential partners is an integral part of United to End Genocide’s work towards halting mass atrocities and preventing genocide.
