Tom Andrews
PresidentTom Andrews is President and Chief Executive Officer of United to End Genocide. A former Congressman from Maine, Tom most recently served as National Director of Win Without War, a coalition of forty national organizations promoting a more progressive national security strategy that calls for prudent use of military engagement. He has worked to promote democracy and human rights throughout the world including Indonesia, Cambodia, Yemen, Algeria, Serbia, and Ukraine among many others. A long-time advocate of democracy and human rights in Burma, Tom has worked closely with the National Coalition Government of the Union of Burma, facilitated the creation of the European Burma Network and served as General Secretary of the Nobel Peace Laureate Campaign for Aung San Suu Kyi. Tom is a Senior Advisor to the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs, chaired by former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. Tom was elected to the Maine House of Representatives in 1982, the Maine Senate in 1984 and the United States House of Representatives in 1990. Tom also served as president of New Economy Communications, a not-for-profit organization providing strategic planning and communication services to individuals and groups advancing labor and human rights issues.
Bama Athreya
Executive DirectorPrior to joining United to End Genocide, Dr. Bama Athreya was President of GlobalWorks, a Washington, DC-based nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting policies and programs to end poverty worldwide. Bama was previously the Executive Director of the International Labor Rights Forum (ILRF), where she developed new programs and advocated for stronger protections for workers’ rights with governments, multinational corporations and international organizations. She was appointed by Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack to the US Department of Agriculture's Consultative Group on Forced and Child Labor, serves as a standards committee member for a national initiative on sustainable agriculture, and is a Member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Dr. Athreya is a social anthropologist, and received her Ph.D. from the University of Michigan.
Niemat Ahmadi
Director of Global PartnershipsAs Director of Global Partnerships and a native of North Darfur, Niemat works to coordinate and sustain United to End Genocide’s relationships with the communities affected by genocide and mass atrocities from the regions that United to End Genocide is working to address. Due to her activism opposing the genocide and the grave human rights abuses in Darfur, she was harassed, threatened, and escaped Sudan after two attempts on her life. Since then, she has become strong advocate on genocide and mass atrocities everywhere. Niemat is a founding member of the Darfuri Leaders Network, a coalition of over 20 domestic Darfuri organizations working to promote peace and security in Darfur. A founder of Darfur Women Action Group, Niemat focuses on the role of Darfuri women in the peace process, and she previously served as an advisor at the seventh round of inter-Sudanese Darfur peace talks in Abuja, Nigeria. In 2008, was recognized by President George W. Bush as one of eight global human rights fighters for freedom of their people. She earned an M.S. in Sustainable Development and a B.A. in Psychology and Pre-school Education from Ahfad University for Women in Khartoum.
Rebecca Dennis
Regional Field OrganizerAs a Regional Field Organizer for United to End Genocide, Rebecca’s primary responsibilities include, working with grassroots leaders based across the country to provide them with the training and tools to target decision makers in their community. Rebecca has a particular interest in working on issues of violence against women in conflicts zones and the ways that art can be used as a form of activism. Prior to joining United to End Genocide’s staff, Rebecca was her STAND chapter’s Community Outreach Coordinator at Michigan State University, where she received her BA in International Relations with a specialization in Peace and Justice Studies.
Diane Fabian
Senior Director of Finance and AdministrationAs Senior Director of Finance and Administration, Diane directs key organizational functions including finance, accounting, audit, compliance, HR, information technology services, facility and operations management, and on-line store administration. Prior to joining United to End Genocide, Diane was Vice President of Prevent Cancer Foundation, a Virginia-based nonprofit promoting cancer prevention through research, screening, and life-style choices. Diane received her M.A. in Business Administration from Strayer University.
Concepcion Gaxiola
Executive AssistantAs Executive Assistant, Concepcion manages the desk of the President, assists the Executive Director, and serves as liaison to the Board of Directors. Prior to joining United to End Genocide, she worked at a private financial firm in Southern California.
David Kienzler
Corporate Engagement SpecialistAs Corporate Engagement Specialist, David’s duties include research in support of the Conflict Risk Network’s (CRN) dialogues with corporate actors and the publication of CRN’s annual company report. Before joining the United to End Genocide team, he conducted fieldwork on human rights and transitional justice issues in Cameroon and South Africa. David received his Juris Doctorate from New York University School of Law.
Ashley Kroetsch
STAND CoordinatorAs STAND Coordinator, Ashley manages the Student Leadership Team, in partnership with the STAND Associate and Student Director. Ashley's responsibilities include the day-to-day management, long-term training, guidance, and evaluation of the STAND Student Managing Committee. Prior to joining United to End Genocide, Ashley served on STAND's Management Committee as the College National Outreach Coordinator. She is originally from Northeastern North Carolina and has a degree in International Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Gbolahan Lawal
Field & Grassroots ManagerAs United to End Genocide’s Field and Grassroots Manager, Gbolahan works with the campaign advocacy team to support the activist community that holds events, lobby days, and other grassroots actions across the country. He also serves as the primary contact for the organization’s United to End Genocide online activist community while planning and implementing the local grassroots components of the organization’s campaigns, events, and initiatives. Gbolahan earned his degree in Political Science at Delaware State University.
Erik Leaver
Director, Digital StrategyAs Director of Digital Strategy, Erik leads UEG's planning and implementation for digital and social media strategies. He oversees the technology needed for all aspects of the organization's online presence and communications. Previously he served as the Communications Manager at the Institute for Policy Studies and as the Communications Director at Interhemispheric Resource Center in New Mexico. Erik holds an MA in Latin American Studies from the University of New Mexico and a BA in Political Science from Furman University.
Catherine Lockman
Director of DevelopmentAs Director of Development, Cat is a social activist who brings fundraising and organizational development leadership to United to End Genocide. Her personal mission is to create positive ripples in the world. She has led fundraising operations for political advocacy and direct service non profits in Washington D.C. and Detroit. Prior to joining United to End Genocide, she served Women Thrive Worldwide as their Vice President of Organizational Development and worked on global women’s issues.
Joe Maddens
Outreach ManagerJoe Maddens manages United to End Genocide’s interfaith efforts and relationships with partner organizations, and previously managed board relations. Joe is the Chair of the Educational Theatre Company’s board of directors and an advisor at Talk for Change. Previously, Joe worked for Seeds of Peace, Aide et Action, l’Association des Jeunes de Kirkissoyye, and Boston University’s program in Niger, West Africa.
Kathy Mulvey
Director, Conflict Risk NetworkKathy Mulvey has more than two decades of experience in corporate engagement, campaigning, grassroots organizing, advocacy, policy analysis, coalition-building, strategic planning and nonprofit management. She has worked on a range of public health, human rights, environmental, social and economic justice issues.
Kathy served on the staff of Corporate Accountability International (formerly Infact) from 1989-2009, and as the Executive Director for 11 years, guided dramatic growth in programs, budget, and staffing. She led the organization’s work in the United Nations system, including the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Human Rights Council. Under her leadership, Corporate Accountability International’s campaign challenging Big Tobacco contributed to the adoption of WHO’s groundbreaking global tobacco treaty, which includes precedent-setting measures to protect public health policy against corporate conflicts of interest.
Fabrice Musoni
Policy AnalystAs Policy Analyst, Fabrice conducts research to maintain and update UEG's watch list of emerging conflicts and dangerous situations at risk of evolving into mass atrocity situations. He also assists with strategic development of organizational policy priorities and case specific recommendations. Fabrice holds an M.S. in Foreign Service from Georgetown University and a B.A. in Political Science and Communication Studies from Luther College.
Allyson Neville-Morgan
Associate Communications DirectorAs Associate Communications Director, Allyson serves as the primary contact with Congressional offices and works to develop and implement United to End Genocide’s advocacy strategy. She also conducts policy research related to the organization’s primary areas of engagement. Allyson previously worked for the Department of Commerce and at an economic research institute in South Africa. She received her M.A. in International Politics with a focus on Africa from American University.
Shannon Orcutt
Policy AssociateAs Policy Associate Shannon provides research and analysis on the situation in Sudan and on conflict areas where the organization has engaged. She also focuses on issues surrounding international justice and serves as the primary contact with Congressional offices. Shannon holds degrees in Government and International Politics and Global Affairs from George Mason University.
Eryn Schornick
Research & Engagement SpecialistAs Research & Engagement Specialist, Eryn conducts strategic research in various conflict-affected areas to support UEG's Conflict Risk Network's (CRN) dialogues with corporate actors and CRN's publications. Before joining the United to End Genocide team, Eryn contributed to legal and programmatic initiatives for stronger protections of workers' rights with the International Labor Rights Forum. She also spent nine months as a legal intern at the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda in Arusha, Tanzania under the President of the Tribunal in Trial Chamber III. Eryn received her B.S.B.A. in Finance and International Business from Creighton University and a Juris Doctorate from New England Law, Boston.
Daniel P. Sullivan
Director of Policy and Government RelationsAs the Director of the Policy and Government Relations team, Dan manages the organization’s conflict analysis and development of policy recommendations related to Sudan, Syria, Libya, Democratic Republic of Congo, Burma, and prevention of genocide and mass atrocities. He also plays a leading role in outreach to the U.S. administration and Congress and coordination with international non-governmental organizations and civil society groups.
Previously Dan worked for Human Rights First, the Brookings Institution and the Albright Stonebridge Group, where he assisted former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright in her role as co-chair of the Genocide Prevention Task Force. Dan received his bachelor’s degree from Harvard University and a Masters from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies.
